Pregnancy Reflexology

Working as a Holistic Therapist for many years now, I have the pleasure of providing Pregnancy Reflexology for mothers to be.

Pregnancy Reflexology is a wonderful complementary holistic therapy for both Mother and Baby. It is a safe and relaxing treatment during pregnancy, labour and post pregnancy.

Many midwives and consultants in hospitals recommend Reflexology for various symptoms during pregnancy.

*It is advised to wait until after the first trimester to have a Reflexology treatment*.

Reflexology Therapy uses the feet as a map of the Body. All of our Body System’s and Nerves (over 7,000 of them) are stimulated by using this relaxing pressure point treatment on the feet.

Using precise hand and finger techniques and applying pressure to the feet to reduce stress on the body’s organs, glands, and other body parts and systems.

This encourages the person’s own natural healing to be activated, to heal the body & maintain wellbeing.

There are many benefits of Reflexology during Pregnancy.

It helps relax the mother to be and reduces any Anxiety or Stress.

It has a very relaxing and calming effect on the baby in the womb, as when the mother is relaxed so is her baby.

Relieves any symptoms the Mother may have:

  • Back Pain
  • Sciatica
  • Morning sickness
  • Heartburn/Indigestion
  • Oedema
  • Regulates Blood pressure
  • Constipation
  • Lack of Energy
  • Pain and Discomfort
  • Fatigue
  • Swollen Extremities
  • Cramps

Having regular sessions throughout pregnancy can really help alleviate any symptoms and help relax both mother and baby.

It has a balancing effect on the overall body, the hormones and also the emotions.

Pregnancy Reflexology

Inducing Labour with Pregnancy Reflexology

Pregnancy Reflexology can help Induce Labour Naturally.

Many women go for Reflexology treatments to encourage labour, especially if they are overdue.

Reflexology can help the body get ready for birth, with aiding relaxation, reducing stress and promoting pain relief.

Studies have found that it can even help reduce the length of labour.

The last few days of pregnancy can be very uncomfortable, especially if you’re overdue.  You may try anything to help to bring on labour.

The Endocrine System is responsible for the secretion of many important hormones in the body

It is made up of the: Pituitary Gland, Pineal Gland, Hypothalamus, Thyroid, Parathyroids, Adrenal Glands, Reproductive Glands: Ovaries and the Pancreas.

All of these reflex points on the feet for the Endocrine System are important during a Reflexology treatment to help bring labour along.

Some Key Reflex areas on the Feet:

Labour is regulated by the hormone Oxytocin which is produced by the Pituitary Gland.

The Pituitary Gland is located on the big toes, firm pressure needs to be applied here. The Pituitary Gland will also help regulate other hormones and also the Thyroid Gland and this needs to be stimulated also.

The Ovaries and Uterus and in particular the area that lies in the indentation near the Malleolus on the outside ankle bone. This area can be quite tender at this stage.

The Adrenal Glands and Solar Plexus: will help reduce stress and cortisol levels in the body which will aid relaxation, give the body energy, endurance and strength.

Another important point on the foot is located on the inside of the ankle, four fingers above the ankle bone. It may feel quite tender, this point will also help to stimulate contractions.

*So Reflexology during pregnancy has many benefits for both mother and baby*.

It can prepare mother’s to be for a more optimum birth and can help induce labour naturally when overdue.

Receiving Reflexology during pregnancy, babies are very calm, feed better and are less prone to colic.

Post Pregnancy Reflexology

It can really help the body heal and help balance all the physical, emotional and hormonal changes. It’s relaxing, balancing and restorative qualities can be very beneficial in supporting the body while it returns to its natural state.
